Amazon keeps track of every purchase made on the platform, sometimes for several years. For users who share an account with family members, this transparency poses a real problem: anyone can view the order history and discover a gift or a personal purchase. Finding and managing hidden orders on Amazon requires understanding what the platform really means by “archiving,” and especially what this function does not do.
What Amazon archiving does not really hide
The archiving function, when available, removes an order from the main list displayed in “Your Orders.” It moves it to a separate section, accessible from the Account menu on the desktop version of the site.

This action does not delete anything. The archived order remains visible to Amazon customer support, warranty services, and authorities in case of a legal request. Billing data and return conditions are not affected by archiving.
Even more significantly: since the adjustments related to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in Europe, Amazon indicates that the order history continues to feed into the personalization of recommendations and advertising, even after archiving. To sever this link, users must explicitly disable personalized ads in their account privacy settings, a separate action from archiving.

Knowing how to hide an Amazon order therefore involves several complementary actions, not just the “Archive” button.
Disappearance of the archive button on the Amazon mobile app

Since late 2023, users have reported that the “Archive Order” button has disappeared from certain interfaces, particularly on the mobile app and in some European countries. Amazon has not officially communicated about a permanent removal, but feedback from users converges: archiving is no longer accessible everywhere or for all accounts.
On the desktop version of the site (web browser), the function still seems available for some users. However, the mobile app no longer consistently offers this option. The available data does not allow for a conclusion on whether this removal is gradual, temporary, or related to A/B testing on Amazon’s side.
For affected accounts, the only way to check is to log in via a computer browser, access “Your Orders,” and look for the “Archive Order” link under each purchase. If the button does not appear, there is no native alternative replacing it in the current interface.
Finding archived orders on Amazon: the concrete procedure
Orders that have already been archived do not disappear from the account. To find them, navigation must be done exclusively through the desktop website. The mobile app does not provide access to this section.
- Log in to Amazon from a computer browser, then hover over “Account and Lists” in the top menu
- Click on “Account,” then look for the “Archived Orders” section in the account management options
- The list displays purchases removed from the main history, with no visible retention time limit on the user side
Amazon allows archiving a substantial volume of orders. Archived orders can be unarchived at any time from this same page: a single click is enough to make them reappear in the main history.
Amazon Household accounts and cross-visibility of purchases
Amazon Household accounts allow two adults to share Prime benefits while maintaining separate accounts. This changes the game for managing the privacy of orders.
With a properly configured Household account, each adult has their own order history, invisible to the other household member. Product recommendations, browsing history, and wish lists remain compartmentalized.
However, certain elements can betray a purchase:
- Delivery notifications sent to shared devices (Echo speakers, Fire tablets) sometimes display the contents of the package
- Bank statements related to a shared payment method mention the amount and merchant
- Alexa devices configured on the account can vocally announce the status of a delivery, including the product name
For sensitive purchases (gifts, personal items), the most reliable combination remains a Household account with separate payment and Alexa notifications disabled. Disabling purchase notifications on Alexa is done from the Alexa app, in the notification settings of each device.

Browsing history and recommendations: two distinct leakage channels
Archiving an order does not erase the traces left by browsing products before purchase. Amazon’s browsing history records every product page visited, and this data directly feeds into the suggestions displayed on the homepage.
A family member who checks the homepage of the account may see revealing product categories, without needing to access the order history. To limit this exposure, two distinct actions exist: manually deleting products from the browsing history (accessible via Account > Browsing History), and temporarily pausing this history.
Pausing prevents the recording of new consultations but does not delete the data already collected. Both actions must be combined for a complete cleanup before browsing gift ideas.
Managing hidden orders on Amazon relies on a layering of settings scattered throughout the interface. No single button guarantees total privacy from other account users. The recent removal of the archiving function on certain interfaces further complicates the situation, without Amazon having proposed a clear replacement solution at this stage.
